About Us
B. Tech Biotechnology course run by Sinhgad College of Engineering is the first AICTE approved course in Savitribai Phule Pune University. It is four years degree course under Engineering faculty. B. Tech Biotechnology course is designed to give equal weightage to engineering and Biology. Biology subjects include Microbiology, Biochemistry, Animal Tissue culture, Molecular Biology, Immunology and diagnostics and fermentation technology along with engineering subjects like Thermodynamics, Unit operations, Fluid Flow, Mass transfer, Heat transfer, Reaction engineering and simulation & modeling. We also offer electives like Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Stem cells and regenerative medicine etc in final year .As a part of curriculum students undertake project work in final year in areas like ATC, Stem cells, Molecular Biology, Bioseparations, Bioinformatics and Biosensors.
Department Of Biotechnology, SCOE, PUNE (DBT-SCOE): Department of Biotechnology is a part of Sinhgad College of Engineering. It is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University and recognized by AICTE, New Delhi. SCOE is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) AICTE, New Delhi and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra . Department of Biotechnology is set in the area of 10,000 sq ft and has state of art laboratories like Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Culture facility, Immunology, Bioinformatics and Fermentation. Faculty is actively engaged in research and consultancies in various areas such as Biochemical engineering, Bioseparations, Biosensors, Pharmacogenomics, Drug Discovery, Stem cells and Bioinformatics. Biotechnology Department can boast of research grants from Office of Principal Scientific Advisors, Govt of India, DST and ICMR worth 1 crore and several private funds. Ongoing research projects are in collaboration with premier institutions in India like IISc, CCMB, MAHE, UICT, IIT and Cornell University, USA.
